Finding common ground is essential. This means asking questions sensitively, listening and confirming your understanding back to the client, acknowledging and confirming the client’s view and circling back to key questions.
Finally (if it’s needed), honestly saying, “I don’t know”, and directing clients to another source of information demonstrates you’ve got their interests at heart. Patiently giving the client room to digest their options clinches the trust you’ve earned.
